Social enterprises

This theme is concerned with both existing social enterprises / new non-profit start-up companies. We aim to achive increased awareness of social enterprise through promotional activity and increased understanding in key stakeholder groups. This will lead to improved access to markets for existing social enterprises. We aim to increase turnover and to increase the numbers of jobs and volunteering opportunities in the social enterprises associated with the project.



Neighbourhood Green, Belgium

In collaboration with the city of Roeselare, the maintenance of neighbourhood green is executed by a social economy enterprise. The enterprise has a lot of freedom to plan their maintenance, as they have to reach a defined view for the neighbourhood.

Nature friendly maintenance of water buffers, Belgium

In order to prevent flooding, buffers that stockpile water during heavy rain were realised. Based on conservation plans, social economy enterprises are hired for the green maintenance. This gives them a long time work perspective.

Gingerbread cafe and cookery school, Scotland

Gingerbread Cafe offers volunteering, training and employment opportunities to local people, including those from disadvantaged groups. Gingerbread Cafe is run on a not for profit basis by Forth Valley Enterprise, whose aim is to develop and manage a number of services and projects, which will benefit the local community of Falkirk and surrounding areas.

Stoneywood Community Projects is a social enterprise offering services to organisations, charities and individuals in the Falkirk District who need property maintenance work carried out. All they ask in return is a donation towards the work group.

Forth Valley Top Toes provides a personal toenail clipping service to people over the age of 50 who have no underlying medical conditions but are unable to cut their own toenails.

Ship Shape Leisure will be a community facility where young people can take part in sport and fitness activities, young mums will be supported back into work through affordable crèche services and the local community will come together to access training opportunities.

Trendy Tribes is an aspiring social enterprise set up to help alleviate social isolation amongst women. They provide creative craft workshops where women can explore their creativity whilst building self-confidence, self-esteem and develop skills to support employment opportunities.
