The Caldon Canal , located in Rural Staffordshire, will provide the infrastructure for young people and volunteers to undertake accredited training in environmental management – approved by City and Guilds.
Construction of footpaths, repairs to eroded water edges, reinstating dry stone walls, building new ecological habitats, vegetation management and access improvements will be undertaken to train, test and accredit people with an environmental qualification – underpinned by competency testing.
The project has two main purposes – significant improvements to the Caldon Canal for the benefit of all the people that use it and to assign young people and volunteers with transferable skills that are recognised and transferable nationally.
Volunteer activity on the Caldon Canal is undertaken in partnership with two local organisations:
Inland Waterways Association (North Staffs & South Cheshire Branch)
Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust
